Best Practice Models to Enhance Transition to College and Careers: June 20, 2011

Presented by Margaretha Vreeburg Izzo, Ph.D. The New Community Opportunities Center at ILRU offers three on-demand trainings on the role of the CIL in facilitating and advancing successful youth transition. This program, "Best Practice Models to Enhance Transition to College and Careers" addresses a number of new practices that help prepare students with disabilities for college and eventual employment. The three programs include: •Part 1: Youth Taking Charge of Their Own Transition: The Role of CILs •Part 2: Best Practice Models to Enhance Transition to College and Careers •Part 3: CIL Strategies for Involving Parents in the Transition Process Upon completion of this on-demand training, participants will have knowledge and resources, which will enable them to: --Describe evidence-based practices and resources to prepare youth with disabilities for successful transitions to college --Explain the difference between services mandated by IDEA of 2004 and services mandated by ADA and Section 504 of the Rehab Act --Identify examples of new postsecondary models developed under the Transition to Postsecondary Settings for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID) --Describe essential college survival skills that result in success in college and eventual transition to employment.
